Support for my paranoia

I KNOW the world is my adversary and it will do anything to slow me down or stop me completely.  Let's take a look at the picture I drew to better explain:

To the right in this picture is the entrance of the office building in which my place of employment is located in.  Now there are 2 escalators, which are wonderfully depicted in my sketch and for this discussion they are labeled A and B.  Both A and B travel in the direction UP.  To gain access to the building you must use on of these escalators.  The arrow depicts the path each person must take to arrive at the escalators and thus access the building.

You may notice that according to the sketch the path a person must take, they will arrive at escalator B first, there's no way around it, they arrive at escalator B first.  To take escalator A, one would need to make a conscience decision to walk past escalator B.

You may also notice in this drawing that escalator B has a passenger on it, we'll call him Mr. Ride.  Mr. Ride is on escalator B and is in no hurry, so he's just standing and enjoying the trip up stairs.  Now, unlike Mr. Ride I like to walk up the escalator, call it what you will, but I just do.

Now suppose the scene is exactly as I have drawn it, Mr. Ride is about halfway up enjoying himself on escalator B.  And I enter the building BUT someone has entered in front of me so I follow them to the escalators and they BYPASS escalator B, get on escalator A and just stop.  Why do they choose to bring both escalators in a stop and ride?
