Fast Times with Milk

I read the eBook "Eat, Stop, Eat" this weekend by Brad Pilon (http://bradpilon.com/).  It deals with the topic of Intermittent Fasting (IF) which is defined as "pattern of eating in which one alternates between periods of fasting (typically consuming only water) and non-fasting."  There appears to be evidence for many benefits to including some fasting in your weekly routine, such as:
-Decreased body fat and body weight
-Decreased blood glucose levels
-Decreased insulin levels and increased insulin sensitivity
-Increased lipolysis and fat oxidation
-increased growth hormone levels

Basically you can live forever...

Anyway, here's the way I see it, the typical American has a pretty sedentary lifestyle.  We get up, sit in traffic heading to work, sit at a desk all day, get back in the car for the drive home and then park our rears on the couch for the rest of the evening.  While some more activity would be immensely beneficial to our well-being, this lifestyle is a difficult cycle to break.

We're tired, we're busy, we're disinterested, And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.   and so on...  So besides not "moving" a whole lot, we eat on a regular basis that whole time, often snacking as well out of boredom.  I know when I am not busy, my mind will stray to the thought of enjoying a snack.

Enter IF and here's the idea... the body is either being fed or fasting, where fasting is using our stored fat for fuel. If we're constantly eating on a schedule, breakfast at 8am, lunch at 12pm, snack at 3pm, dinner at 6pm, we're always adding excess calories that we probably don't "move" enough to use and end up storing, repeat that the next day and the next and the next...

This brings us to today, my day of (mostly) fasting.  I say mostly because according to the routine outlined in "Eat, Stop, Eat", you should shoot for one to two 24 hour fasts per week, where the fast begins after dinner one day and ends at dinner time the next day.  Essentially I'll be skipping breakfast, lunch and snacks today but enjoy a normal dinner tonight.  Easy enough...

I've already compromised my fast, lol, but I need a few drops of milk in my morning coffee, mostly for color.  I am "allowed" to drink as much water as I want along with tea and coffee sans sugar and milk.

It's 10am and I feel fine so far...

Rereading this, it all sounds crazy lol ;-)
