Speaking of Disney World

As a young'in we'd go to Disney World every summer, as you already know from my blog about South of the Border... Seven days prior to our departure, I would begin watching the TV edited version* of National Lampoon's Vacation I'd recorded, everyday until we left.  It really got me pumped for the 2 day car ride.  In all, I've probably watched that movie five thousand times.

Many moons ago I could recite the entire movie, a few weeks ago I did just that for Ashley when she was having trouble falling asleep.  I think I go to the Dodge City scene, "Hey Tenderfoot, move your chicken wings, turkey"

I googled "lampoon's vacation" and first picture:

And I know the words...  "We pass a damn gas station every 50 yards for a thousand miles but when you really need one!?!?!?!  This is no way to run a desert!!! I love a parade!!!!" and so on

The only movie I may have seen more is "Beetlejuice", one summer I watched it every day.
I was in LOVE with Winona Ryder

the age old question, is the girl half envious or half mudita?

In 1989 I was reading thru the TV guide and found a blurb about Winona getting engaged to Johnny Depp.  I freaked and wrote a letter to somewhere, lol... I have no idea who i sent it too... somewhere in California, probably to TV guide, hoping through some channels it would make it's way to her.  It detailed how Johnny Depp was not a good fit for her and essentially begging her not to marry him and to consider waiting for me.  Sure, it seems a little desperate now...

*TV edited versions of movies are inherently funny, this probably doesn't happen much anymore but have you ever quoted a line from an edited movie and your friends look at you like "what the fuck are you talking about???".   I guess it did seem forced and awkward when Schwarzenegger said "Fool you!"

  1. I probably should have mentioned this, but about a month or so ago a letter came in the mail from Winona begging you not to marry me. Sorry for forgetting to tell you... :-/
